about the organisation
organisation:
organisation's background:
Founded in 2000, we are currently the only registered non-profit girls’ high-school in the People’s Republic of China, and are funded by Sowers Action and Uniskies, both Hong Kong-based educational charities. Under the "Golden Phoenix" program, the school is approved by Nanning City Education Bureau to recruit students from national and provincial level poverty-counties of the whole Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with tuition fees, miscellaneous fess, boarding fees and utility fees all exempted.
Originally inspired by the Spring Blossom Project of All-China Women's Federation and China Children and Teenagers Fund, the Golden Phoenix Program’s mission is to promote education fairness by improving ethnic-minority poor girls’ access to high-school education.
In the ten years since its founding, we have nurtured almost a thousand students to enter tertiary education, and 133 of which, in particular, became the first ever University student or first ever female University student of their ethnic minority village of origin in history. Currently, the school has three forms, five classes and in total 200 students, many of whom are girls from nine minority tribes across Guangxi Province’s poor mountainous areas, with family average annual income of less than 800 yuan.
